Substituting in Lamar C.I.S.D.

Why should I be interested in substituting?

Districts sometimes hire substitutes as full time employees if they have a proven success record.
Subbing is flexible – you work when you want to.
It’s an opportunity for a variety of experiences in many buildings and grade levels within Lamar CISD.

What are the educational requirements to become a substitute in the Lamar schools? What is the pay rate?

	DAILY RATE
Certified Teachers, Certified Counselors, Registered Nurses	$92.70
Non-certified (bachelor’s degree)	$82.40
Non-degreed substitute, Clerks (HS diploma/GED), LVNs (license)	$72.10
Crossing guard (per hour)	$8.24/hr
Cafeteria Monitor (per hour)	$7.25/hr

ADMINISTRATORS will be paid ½ of their Daily Dock Rate of their last employment, but no less than $150.00 per day.

Long Term Assignments (10+ days in same assignment)
Certified Teachers and Registered Nurses	$149.35
Non-certified bachelor’s degree	$108.15
Non-degreed substitutes: More than 60 college hours 30-59 college hours Less than 30 college hours	$82.40 $77.25 $72.10

How do I become a substitute?

Complete the online substitute application at: https://secure.lcisd.org/appentry/.
Email Vanessa Andrews at vandrews@lcisd.org to request access to the online portion of the sub orientation.
After successfully completing the online portion of the sub orientation, call (832)223-0300 to register for the in-person portion of the orientation. THIS PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED!
Orientation sessions will be scheduled on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of every month (exceptions may be necessary due to the holiday schedule).
After you have successfully completed both portions of the sub orientation (online & in-person), you will be required to complete the state-mandated fingerprinting process. Each substitute will be required to pay for his/her own fingerprinting (approximately $50.00).
Register with our telephone system and you're ready to begin subbing!

What will I learn during the online orientation?

Successful substituting techniques including discipline management, motivation, and individualization.
Important highlights from the Substitute Handbook and the Code of Student Conduct.
Specific instruction on dress and grooming, computer usage, sexual harassment scenarios, substitute evaluation, completion of your profile, how to use our automated substitute system, and safety/crisis management.

What do I do if I want to sub a second year?

You must complete the Returning Substitute process each year during the summer. Additional information will be emailed to you to the email address you have on file with the district.
